International Yoga Day Celebration at Mother Teresa Memorial School

🧘‍♀️ International Yoga Day Celebration at MTMS

“Yoga for Wellness, Peace, and Harmony” 🌞

On June 21st, the serene morning air at Mother Teresa Memorial School (MTMS) was filled with calm energy, rhythmic breaths, and a spirit of togetherness as students and staff came together to celebrate the 10th International Yoga Day.

With the theme of “Yoga for Self and Society,” the event aimed to inspire our young learners to adopt yoga as a way of life and a path to physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

🌿 Significance of the Day

International Yoga Day, initiated by the United Nations in 2015 and championed by India, highlights the timeless benefits of yoga in promoting health, discipline, and inner peace. At MTMS, we believe in the holistic development of every child, and yoga plays a vital role in nurturing focused, balanced, and happy individuals.

🏫 Morning Assembly & Inauguration

The day began with a special morning assembly:

  • Prayer & Mantra Chanting to create a peaceful and focused environment

  • Thought of the Day on mindfulness and inner harmony

  • A brief talk on the history and importance of Yoga Day by a senior student

  • The event was officially inaugurated by our Principal, who encouraged students to “make yoga a daily habit for a healthier body and a calmer mind.”

🧘‍♂️ Mass Yoga Session

The main highlight of the day was the Mass Yoga Demonstration conducted in the school ground. Under the guidance of experienced yoga instructors and PE teachers, students from all classes participated in a structured yoga session.

Key Asanas Practiced:

  • Tadasana (Mountain Pose) – for posture and strength

  • Vrikshasana (Tree Pose) – for balance and focus

  • Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose) – for flexibility and energy

  • Padmasana (Lotus Pose) – for calmness and meditation

  • Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) – for complete body fitness

  • Anulom-Vilom & Bhramari Pranayama – for breath control and mental clarity

Students performed with impressive discipline and coordination, demonstrating not just their learning, but also respect for ancient Indian traditions.

🌼 Yoga for All: Inclusive Participation

This year’s celebration saw participation from:

  • Students of all grades

  • Teaching & Non-teaching Staff

  • Parents (invited for the early morning community session)

Their collective presence created a powerful message: Yoga unites us beyond age and role.

🎨 Creative Activities

To reinforce the essence of yoga, several parallel activities were organized:

  • Poster Making: Themes included “Yoga for Peace”, “Healthy Body, Calm Mind”, and “Yoga Every Day”

  • Slogan Writing: Students penned original slogans like

“Yoga is not just exercise, it is a way of life.”

  • Quiz Competitions: Fun yoga facts, mythology, and modern science

📸 Glimpses of the Day

Our school grounds were a picture of unity and mindfulness — with students in uniform lines, their hands stretched toward the sun in Surya Namaskar, the sound of deep breathing filling the air, and joy reflecting in every smile.

The event was captured in photographs and videos, soon to be shared across our official platforms.

💬 Reflections

“Yoga helps me feel calm during exams,” said a Grade 8 student.

“More than fitness, yoga teaches patience and self-control — values we nurture at MTMS,” shared one of the faculty members.

🌟 Conclusion

The International Yoga Day Celebration at MTMS was more than a school event — it was a movement toward wellness, mindfulness, and unity. It reminded us that in a fast-paced world, slowing down to breathe, stretch, and reflect is not a luxury, but a necessity.

We at MTMS are proud to raise a generation that understands the value of ancient wisdom in modern life — and carries the torch of health, peace, and harmony wherever they go.
